Bible
Positive Action for Christ-Growing with God: Students will develop character through lessons learned from Abraham, Jacob, Joseph, and Daniel concerning the rewards of living for God.
Spelling
The students learn to inquire about the many facets of the scientific method through projects, experiments, and research by looking at physical science, earth and space science. We study matter, motion and force, simple machines, electricity, and magnets; rocks and soil, the earth's surface, the water cycle, and the solar system with stars and constellations.
Art
Students are exposed to a variety of different mediums in art for the first time in a structured environment. Projects include water color, oil pastels and many others. Art is also often integrated into core curriculum.
Chapel
Each student at Capital Christian School is given many opportunities to grow spiritually through daily Bible classes as well as chapel services, which are held twice a month.
Reading
The Abeka reading program is designed to help all students acquire the skill to read with understanding an appreciation of literature. In addition, students will discover their lives are enriched through the kind of learning and enjoyment that can come only through books. Students are exposed to various types of literature including folklore, animal tales, biographical stories, historical fiction, and novel studies. We practice read-aloud, whole-group, silent reading, and pair-sharing.
Social Studies
By looking at the lives of important Americans, students learn the events surrounding our American history. Each character is studied and learned for their contributions to American culture, and the students begin developing their geography skills through scale drawings and map studies.
Language Arts
Students are given a mixed approach that builds on grammar and construction of writing with creative and research-practice writing. They learn types of sentences, parts of speech, punctuation and capitalization rules, poetry, speeches, reports, stories, and drawing activities.
Events
Special events include field trips, school carnival, and class parties. Students also have the opportunity to participate in school competitions including a spelling bee, speech meet, science fair and B.E.A.R. program.
Mathematics

Science
A combination of field trips, class discussion, reading, written activities, experiments, and take home projects are used to reinforce the different areas of science that we discuss through the year. Some of the fun things 2nd grade has done in the past are: models of vertebrate and invertebrate animals, experimenting with stored energy, and taste testing all different parts that make up plants.
Handwriting
Students review proper manuscript (printing) form, and in the second semester begin learning cursive. By the end of second grade, your student should be able to neatly write capital and lowercase cursive letters. This will be accomplished through practice in class and various written homework assignments.
Capital Christian School's second grade provides students
with essential foundations while instilling a love of learning.
